Encryption raonsomware (Trojan.Encoder)programs search disks on infected desktops and the memory of compromised mobile devices for user data and encrypt it and demand a ransom for its decryption.

Currently, Trojan.Encoder programs are one of the most dangerous threats for users. This Trojan family includes several thousand modifications.

In over 90% of incidents,

users themselves launch encryption ransomware on their computers.

An encryption Trojan can infect any computer (even one protected by an anti-virus) if the Trojan’s definition is not yet present in the virus database or if the anti-virus doesn't feature proactive protection technologies that allow data integrity to be protected even from unknown, unregistered viruses.

The Anti-virus Times recommends

Thanks to its preventive protection technologies and Data Loss Prevention feature, Dr.Web Security Space (Windows) solves the problem of keeping data safe from encryption ransomware.

Unlike conventional backup programs, Dr.Web creates backups and protects them from intruders.

Setting up protection against encryption ransomware

  1. Download and install Dr.Web Security Space (for Windows). If you do not have a commercial serial number, request a trial.
  2. Make sure that you toggle on the preventive protection which protects your PC against threats yet unknown to Dr.Web.
  3. Go to the ‘Tools’ menu to turn on ‘Data loss prevention’ and configure the parameters of the backup storage containing your important files (watch the video tutorial).
  4. Create a custom schedule to back up your valuable data.
